State Street Bar and Grill was looking for a very specific design concept with a look and feel that is reminiscent to a bar and grills established in Portland Oregon. Looking for a whimsical, funky and comfortable atmosphere located downtown Bellingham, Ben settled on renovating the old Greyhound Bus Depot. A beautiful structure built in the twenties, the old depot was the perfect setting for a new speak-easy. Transforming the bus stop in to a bar and grill was an exercise in knowing what to leave. The beautiful coffered ceilings with plaster scrolls at the columns and beams along with a terrazzo floor provided an excellent back drop to begin the creation of this comfortable setting. Created with minimal demolition, new colors, furnishings, equipment and a kitchen delight diners with great food, fine spirits and a singularly special atmosphere.
Coppa, Mediterranean Bistro
Fahri Ugurlu established this spirited bistro in the Fairhaven Square Building intent on providing a menu that reflected his native Turkish roots and the indigenous foods of the region. A lively atmosphere with sunset and city views makes dining at the Coppa a refreshing experience. The limited ceiling heights and hard surfaces have been visually lifted and audible softened by utilizing color and texture. A compact bar is nestled into and adjacent the dining area creating a dynamic, urban and modern atmosphere. A variety of leaded glass, wood, tile and warm color tones, the Coppa is reminiscent of its Mediterranean roots while respecting the newer building and the culture of Northwest Washington.
